4/20/10: Historic Legislation to Restore San Francisco Bay

Congresswoman Speier and Environmental Leaders to Announce Historic Legislation to Restore San Francisco Bay

Congresswoman Jackie Speier's office has announced that she will hold a press conference on April 23rd to discuss the introduction of the San Francisco Bay Improvement Act of 2010. The bill would authorize approximately $100 million annually over 10 years to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to fund efforts to restore San Francisco Bay. She will be joined by representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership, Save the Bay, The Bay Institute and other organizations dedicated to conserving the Bay.

Why this bill now?  The health of the Bay has been diminished by pollution, invasive species and loss of wetland habitat. H. R. 5061 will help restore San Francisco Bay, the largest estuary on the West Coast.
