10/17/13: Art on Oars Silent Auction to Benefit The Bay Institute
GUIDEBOAT COMPANY CELEBRATES LAUNCH WITH ART ON OARS SILENT AUCTION
Auction Proceeds Will Benefit Local Non-Profit The Bay Institute
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 17, 2013 - On Wednesday, October 23, 2013, Guideboat Company will celebrate the recent launch of its Mill Valley based retail store with a silent auction, effectively called Art on Oars. Guideboat Company is the newest project for Restoration Hardware founder Stephen Gordon, dedicated to building “exceptional renditions of American vintage boats… water-ready and built to endure.”
The proceeds from Art on Oars will benefit The Bay Institute, a Bay Area based non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, restoring and inspiring the conservation of San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from the Sierra to the sea. Guideboat Company has a direct connection to the water, especially considering the intended venue for the boats it creates and its Mill Valley location so close to the Bay and the waterways that flow into it. Because of this connection, it was important for the company to find a leader in water protection, preservation and rehabilitation. Guideboat Company found that The Bay Institute was a perfect fit, as they do just that and have been developing and leading model scientific research, education and advocacy programs to preserve the local watersheds for over 30 year.
In partnership with Stephanie Breitbard Fine Arts, Art on Oars will include ten artisan designed Guideboat oars by various renowned Bay Area artists. This group of well-known and accomplished artists represent a wide variety of styles and media, a diversity that is well-reflected on the oars up for auction.
“We are very excited to be a part of Guideboats Art on Oars event,” says Eve Simon of Stephanie Breitbard Fine Arts. “Art on Oars is a great opportunity to own a truly unique piece of work from each of these ten artists while making a difference for the San Francisco Bay.”
Art on Oars will take place out of Guideboat Company’s retail store, located in the 19th century historic Mill Valley Lumber Yard at 129 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley, CA 94941.
